CBDT has extended the last date of linkage of Aadhaar with PAN to 30th September, 2021. The prescribed last date of linking Aadhaar with PAN has been extended to 30th September 2021 from 30th June, 2021.
A permanent account number is a 10 character alphanumeric number, issued by the Indian Income Tax Department, to any “person” who applies for it or to whom the department allots the number without an application. All tax-related information for a person/company is recorded against a single PAN number.
Section 234H (inserted via Finance Act 2021) of The Income-tax Act, 1961 specifies a fee/penalty for up to Rs 1000 If a person defaults in linking the Aadhar Number with a Permanent Account Number within the prescribed date.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made it mandatory to link AADHAAR with PAN on the Income Tax portal by 30th September, 2021. Aadhaar is a verifiable 12-digit identification number issued by UIDAI to the resident of India for free of cost.

PAN can be linked with Aadhaar through the new Income Tax portal either by logging into the portal or without logging into the portal.
If the PAN is not linked to Aadhaar within the prescribed date, then Apart from the penalty of up to Rs 1000, The PAN will become inoperative from 01st Oct, 2021 and it can’t be used to conduct the financial transactions wherever quoting of PAN is mandatory.
