For making the e-Filing portal, user-friendly, The Income Tax department has come up with a new e-Filing portal (ITR e-filing 2.0) which will be effective from 7thJun, 2021. The new web address of the e-Filing portal will be https://www.incometax.gov.in.

The Press release issued by the Ministry of Finance said, “In preparation for this launch and for migration activities, the existing portal at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in would not be available to taxpayers as well as other external stakeholders for a brief period of 6 days i.e.from 1st June 2021 to 6th June 2021.”
The new e-Filing portal is aimed at providing taxpayer convenience and a modern, seamless experience to taxpayers.

The New Income Tax e-Filing portal will be taxpayer-friendly integrated with immediate processing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) so that refunds can be issued quickly.
In the new e-Filing portal all correspondences, replies, uploads, and any pending task will be displayed on a single dashboard for follow-up or any other needful action by the taxpayer.
The New e-Filing portal will enable the users to file the ITR free of cost by providing ITR preparation software online and offline with relevant frequently asked questions to help taxpayers file ITR even without any tax knowledge, Pre-filling will be there as it is present in the existing e-Filing portal.
A new call center will be there for taxpayer assistance for immediate answers to the queries of taxpayers with relevant FAQs. Online Tutorials, Informative Videos, and chatbot/live agent service will also be there.
All the key portal functions which are available on the desktop will be available on the Mobile App which will be enabled subsequently for full anytime access on the mobile network.
A new online system of Tax Payment will be enabled subsequently with multiple new payment options using net banking, UPI, Credit Card, and RTGS/NEFT, and other modes.
The Income Tax department has clarified that during this transition period there will not be any compliance dates. Any new hearing shall begin only from 10th June, onwards. Hearing of cases falling between these transition periods has also been Preponed/Postponed.
The transition information has also been communicated to the concerned agencies including Banks, MCA, GSTN, DPIIT, CBIC, GeM, DGFT who avail services of PAN verification, etc. so that they can take necessary action in the interest of the Customer/ other stakeholders.
The Income Tax department has requested the patience of all the taxpayers and other users during the transition period.
No. The Login ID created on the old portal created at https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in will remain valid for the new e-Filing portal as well.
