CBDT has extended the due date for filing of ITR (Income Tax Returns) for FY 2018-19 (AY 2019-20) by 2 months i.e. from 31st July 2020 to 30th September 2020, vide Notification in S.O. 2512 (E) dated 29th July 2020.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for filing of ITR In view of the constraints due to the COVID pandemic & to further ease compliances for taxpayers.
CBDT invoked the powers given under the Taxation and other Laws (Relaxation of Certain Provisions) Ordinance brought out in March to give extra time to tax payers in view of the difficulties during the pandemic. Tax payers were earlier given time till the end of November for filing returns for FY20.
This relaxation has come at a time when the number of coronavirus infections in India has crossed more than 1.5 million and several parts of the country are under movement restrictions of some form or the other.
One consideration for giving extra time for various statutory filings is to improve compliance.
